• Yes, the client establishes a secure websockets connection to the Dataplicity service. This enables it to function effectively even in situations where firewalls, NAT, or other network obstructions are present.

• How does Dataplicity work?

• Dataplicity utilizes a secure web connection that is opportunistic and connected to provide seamless communication between your device and the Dataplicity service. Your web browser then attaches itself to the other end of this communication channel.

• Is SSH activation necessary?

• No, Dataplicity does not require SSH, telnet, or any other network services to operate. The client is self-contained and does not open any network ports on your device.

• Does it open a local port on the Raspberry Pi?

• No, client connections are initiated from the device end and do not open any local ports.

• Do I need to install something on the Raspberry Pi?

• Yes, you will need to install the Dataplicity agent on your Raspberry Pi. The source code for the agent can be found on GitHub for reference.

• Does the Dataplicity agent run as root?

• No, upon logging into the Dataplicity shell, you would still need to explicitly request super user rights in order to gain full control.
